Sergio Perez is a Mexican racing driver who currently competes in Formula One for the Red Bull Racing team. He made his debut in 2011 with Sauber and has since become one of the most successful drivers in the sport, having won two races and achieved numerous podium finishes. He is also known for his consistency, having finished in the points on over 70 occasions.
#Early Life :
Perez was born in Guadalajara, Mexico on January 26th 1990. His father, Antonio, was a successful businessman who owned a trucking company. From an early age, Sergio showed an interest in motorsport and began karting at the age of six. He quickly rose through the ranks and by the age of 13 he had won the Mexican National Karting Championship.
#Racing Career :
In 2006, Perez moved up to single-seater racing, competing in the Mexican Formula BMW series. He won the championship in his first season and then moved to Europe to compete in the Formula 3 Euro Series. He continued to impress, finishing third in the championship in 2008 and second in 2009.
In 2010, Perez was signed by Sauber as their test driver and he made his Formula One debut at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix. He scored points on his debut and went on to finish the season in 11th place in the Drivers’ Championship.
#McLaren Years :
In 2013, Perez joined McLaren, replacing Lewis Hamilton. He enjoyed a strong start to the season, scoring points in four of the first five races. However, his form tailed off and he was replaced by Kevin Magnussen for 2014.
#Force India:
In 2014, Perez joined Force India, where he would remain for the next four seasons. During this time, he became one of the most consistent drivers on the grid, regularly scoring points and finishing in the top 10 of the Drivers’ Championship.
#Red Bull:
In 2019, Perez joined Red Bull Racing, replacing Pierre Gasly. He enjoyed a strong first season with the team, scoring three podiums and finishing fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.
#Personal Life:
Outside of racing, Perez is an avid golfer and enjoys playing tennis. He is also a keen philanthropist and has set up several charities to help underprivileged children in Mexico.
